Oyigbo: Ex Council Vice Chairman, Others Decry State Of Roads

The deplorable state of Oyigbo roads,from Aba road area up to  Afam and the interior has continued to raise concern among residents of the area, even as the former vice chairman of the Oyigbo local government area, Innocent Ajelu joined in the calls for government to take urgent steps to rehabilitate the roads for the socio-economic benefits of the people.

The one time vice chairman of the Oyigbo council lamented the dismal state of affairs in the area, calling on the Rivers State government to come to the aid of the council for meaningful development to take place.

”The roads here are in a mess. If the state government cannot do it alone, they can appeal to the federal government for collaboration, politics has gone. This is time for governance.”

He also lamented that despite the oil and gas activities in the area which contribute to the development of the state the local government area has remained uncared for. He said apart from the road situation the area lack hospitals and other amenities.

Other residents of the local government area who reacted to the state of the roads stressed the need for urgent attention.

Obinna Tochukwu, a resident said that the roads around the local government area are in a sorry state, while recounting the damages to their businesses and social life, he said that the rains have deepen the difficulties being experienced on daily basis. According to him, it would take some people to trek long distance before catching a bus to their destinations.

He lamented that with the resumption of the rains following the August break life would remain tough for the people unless government came to their aid. He stated that some of the roads around the local government are impassable.

Another resident, who is into transport business,Austin Chiwendu, lamented that bad roads around the area had been responsible for damages to vehicles lack of business for many. He expressed dismay at government lack of response to an urgent need in the area and appealed to authorities to collaborate to ensure that the roads are in good shape so that life can be more meaningful to residents and those doing businesses in the area on daily basis.
