Although, 100 days is too short to x-ray any administrations in terms of achievements and shortfalls, there is no doubt that the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has recorded a number of milestones in his 100 days in office.
Steeping into the huge shoes of a man (former Governor Wike) who was rated as a great achiever, Fubara went into office in high spirits, trying to maintain Wike’s tempo, and to a large extent, he has shown that given time, he is capable of improving on the infrastructure left behind by his immediate predecessor.
When he came into office, Governor Fubara had promised a minimum of 16 projects in his 100 days, a promise he has kept considering what had been put on ground already.
Few weeks after he assumed office, Governor Sim Fubara courageously flagged off the construction of the Port Harcourt Ring Road which had been in the pipelines for years. As we speak now, work has started on the Ring Road project and when completed, many Rivers communities would be linked to the city’s road network, while traffic hold-ups which is a regular feature of Port Harcourt will become a thing of the past.
Earlier before the flagged-off of the Port Harcourt Ring Road Project, Sim had released some buses as palliatives to ease the transportation difficulties facing Rivers residents as a result of the hike in fuel price. The buses ferry commuters from one station to another free of charge. Some ply the local government areas, while others ply the streets of Port Harcourt. This writer had seen the ones which ply Oyigbo Local Government area, Mile 1-Eleme Junction, Mile 1-Rumuokoro, Rumuokoro-Oil Mill etc.
Recently, the Governor inspected the 10.3 kilometer Indorama-Agbonchia-Ogale-Ebubu-East West Link Road, the 19.1 kilometer long Oyibo-Okoloma (Afam) Road, the Comprehensive High School Alesa-Eleme, the Botem-Gbene-nu Horo Road, the community Secondary School Koroma-tai, and the Government Secondary in Eneka, Obio Akpor LGA.
Governor Fubara had said he was in those areas to personally certify the state of the completion of the projects and to ensure that the desired quality was delivered to the beneficiaries. Noting that his administration is still at its infant stage, the Governor said the zeal to work more in advancing the interest of the state will be sustained to ensure that every Rivers person feels the benefits of the development strides.
The workaholic Governor will also soon flag off the old Bori Road which leads to Eteo in Eleme, which also connects Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area.
Pained by the robbery incident at the Rivers State University, Sir Fubara had rushed through the inspection and visited the institution where he condemned the robbery, promising to set up investigation to unravel the perpetrators.
Rivers Health Sector is also heavily benefiting from Governor Fubara’s transformation agenda as a number of hospitals and health centers were being renovated and equipped.
So far, one of the greatest achievements of Governor Sim Fubara is his regular and prompt payment of civil servants salaries. It was gathered that since he assumed office, civil servants’ salaries have been paid on time and regularly. This regular payment of salaries has eased the burdens of civil servants especially now that the economy is in shambles.
Fubara’s humane attitude to work reveals a governor who has interests of Rivers people at heart and ready to deliver dividends of democracy to them.
Despite these laudable achievements he has made in just 100 days, Governor Sim had vowed to execute more projects in the days ahead for the up liftment of Rivers State and her citizens.
