In continuation of his state-wide delivery of projects, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Thursday flagged off the construction of three major roads in Ahoada West Local Government Area.
The governor also flagged off the construction of Model Primary Healthcare Centre, Odiokwu, Ahoada West Local Government Area.
The roads flagged off for construction are Odiokwu Internal Roads, Odiokwu-Anwuigboko and Odiokwu-Oyigba Roads.
The governor said that the projects in Ahoada West Local Government Area are in fulfilment of his pledge to the people when he campaigned in the area.
Governor Wike said that his second Local Government Area of origin is Ahoada West because his wife hails from the area.
He directed the Commissioner of Health and the Special Adviser on Special Projects to ensure that the key projects are completed on schedule because funds have been reserved for the projects.
He said: ‘We are committed to the completion of these projects in record time. I thank the people of Odiokwu for their patience . Today, they have been rewarded with very important projects.
“Some of your people were in government for eight years, but they did not execute any projects in this local government area. Nobody remembered Odiokwu and the neighbouring communities.
“You must understand that my government fulfills all promises that we make. That is why we are here today to fulfil our promises
Governor Wike urged the youths to protect the contractors to deliver the projects as several youths will be employed during the execution of the projects.
Speaking at the flag off, the Special Adviser on Special Projects to the Rivers State Governor, Alabo George Kerley said that the projects will transform the economy of the area.
He said that the contractors will be monitored to deliver the road projects in line with specifications.
Also speaking, Rivers State Health Commissioner, Professor Chike Princewill said that the model healthcare centre will transform the healthcare delivery system of Odiokwu when completed.
Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Hon Hope Ikiriko thanked the Rivers State Governor for starting the execution of projects in Odiokwu town.
Thousands of people from Ahoada West Local Government Area sang and danced in celebration of the execution of key projects. The traditional rulers of the area joined the celebration as they presented gifts to the Rivers State Governor and conferred on him a Chieftaincy Title.
