Travellers Shun Etche Federal Road As Armed Robbers Lay Siege

 

Commuters plying the Etche Federal road in Etche local Government area of Rivers State have raised alarm over activities of gunmen who are now making the route unsafe for the users.

In a chat with National Network, members of the Federal Government N-Power programme who ply the route to Omuma local Government area told our reporter that gunmen laid siege between Obibi and Agbalu community on Monday morning for over an hour, robbing and dispossessing travellers of their belongings.

A member of the N-Power who is a teacher in a school in Omuma revealed that as early as 8; 00am they received distress calls from their colleagues who were already trapped along the road.

He explained that over 40 members of the N-Power who were on their way to Omuma for a special programme took another route to avoid coming in contact with the hoodlums.

According to our source, the armed robbers  injured many who did not have much on them while some were kidnapped. The source stated that armed robbers most times lay siege close to a Deeper Life Church camp located between the two communities.

The road users described the area as death trap and urged the security agencies to ensure constant patrol of the road to curtail the criminal activities going on along that route.

Armed robbery incidents are said to take place mainly in the mornings along that axis.
