...Two Killed, One Missing
Security is said to be tightened in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State following reports of killing of two members of local vigilante popularly known as Rumuji OSPAC in Rumuodogo community on Monday morning by suspected “Deygbam” cult members who are reported to be re-grouping to take control of territories lost as a result of intense raiding of their camps by security agencies.
An executive of National Youth Council of Nigeria who is a native of the community told National Network that combined team of Soldiers, Police and vigilantes in other Emohua communities have been combing the entire bush in Rumuodogo in search of the hoodlums after the killings took place.
The NYCN official explained that the two vigilante personnel rushed down to Rumuodogo that fateful day following a distress call from natives that suspected “Deygbam” cult members have invaded the community. He added that “unknown to the security personnel that the hoodlums had laid ambush for them”.
Our source revealed that the hoodlums killed the security personnel after overpowering them while the rider of the motorbike was taken alive to unknown destination.
The source disclosed that it took the intervention of the Military and the Police to dislodge the rampaging cultists who are believed to have fled to neigbouring communities through the Rumuodogo River.
Reports say the cultists may have carried out the attack to avenge the killing of Ekweume Brown the leader of “Deygbam” cult group in Emohua LGA and notorious hijacker of passenger vehicles along the Emohua section of the East West Road.
It is believed that Runuodogo used to be a very strong hold and one of the logistic base of the slain “Deygbam” cult leader.
Investigations by National Network show that no vigilante group is domiciled in the community but the security personnel from Rumuji carry out patrol at times in the area.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Nnamdi Omoni was yet to respond to text messages sent to his mobile phone on enquiry into the incident.
It would be recalled that many cultists/kidnappers in Emohua were killed while others fled following a serious clampdown by community vigilante in synergy with the ew security outfit in the state “Operation Sting”.
The destruction of kidnappers/cultists den in the LGA has reportedly led to drastic reduction in kidnapping of vehicle passengers along that route.
