In a bid to have a virile alumnus as well as give back to their school, some students of the class of 1995 of Commercial and Industrial Training Center (CITC), Port Harcourt have set plans in motion to revive and reinvigorate the alumni of the school.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after a meeting over the weekend in Port Harcourt, the spokesman of the group, comrade Chima Wisdom Soronnamdi said that plans have reached advanced stage to revive the alumni of the institution.
According to him, they have also mapped out plans and strategy to rebuild and transform the school. To this end, the group said series of meetings would be held with a view to inviting other students to make their own valid contributions.
He said any school without an alumnus would struggle and its students may not produce sound students.
“A school that does not have an alumnus would struggle and its students may not compete favourably with their counterparts”, he said.
On the way forward for their alumni, Soronnamdi had this to say: “The way forward is for the old students of our alma-mater to come together and see what we can give back to our school. In fact, we want to make great impact on both our school and in Rivers State”.
He described their meeting as not only a reunion but unifying meeting for old students since they have not met for some years.
“Since we passed out from our school about 25 years ago, we have not met. Therefore, today’s meeting is not only a reunion but a unifying get-together to proffer solutions to our problems”, he emphasized.
He hinted that they would soon set up an interim committee to run the affairs of the alumni.
Also speaking, the Organizing Committee Chairman of the maiden meeting, Comrade Amadi Godknows, said they would work assiduously to ensure that all old students come together so as to play their role in the alma-mater.
He urged all hands to be on deck so that the alumni of their alma-mater becomes functional, while giving assurance that the old students of the CITC would continue to defend and protect the interest of the school wherever they go as well as be good ambassadors of the school.
