Indigenes of Obor Community of Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State resident in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, have cried out to Governor Hope Uzodinma following the alleged killing of five youths of their community by security agents suspected to be operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) last weekend.
Under the auspices of Obor Progressive League (OPL), Port Harcourt branch, the group appealed to governor Uzodinma to use his position as Chief Security Officer and ensure that justice is served to the embattled community which has been deserted by residents.
Chairman of OPL, Port Harcourt branch, Nze Fab Itu claimed that the killing of their youths and destruction of houses began in December 30, 2021.
The Chairman, in the distress message, feared that the heinous killings if not stopped, could see the once peaceful community, wiped out by the trigger happy Invaders.
According to Nze Itu, the sad incident may not be unconnected to what he described as the phantom chase of members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by the DSS.
He alleged that the DSS operatives stormed their community on the night of December 30, 2021 and started setting some houses on fire while shooting sporadically.
Ugbo alleged that the Invaders were heard screaming “where are the IPOB idiots, where are they?”, adding that in the process, five youths were felled by the killers’ bullets.
His words: “They think we don’t know but we’ve been reliably told what their mission was. Its the war against IPOB and they think its in our community they would find them.
“They claim they are looking for IPOB elements, so any body they see becomes a target. God will judge them”.
The OPL branch Chairman also called on the Imo State Commissioner of Police as well as the State Director of DSS to investigate the incident so that the perpetrators would be brought to book.
Recall that a police officer recently shot and killed an operative of the DSS who was later identified as Prince Nwachinaemere Ezemuonye Ozuzu, allegedly mistaken for an unknown gunman, a development that had since been denied by the DSS.
It is also alleged that members of the proscribed IPOB are regularly kidnapped or extrajudicially killed by security agents.
This sad development has allegedly thrown fears among people of the South East, especially youths staying abroad, amidst rumours they have been tagged IPOB and could be arrested, maimed or killed upon return into the country.
Efforts by our correspondent to get comments from the DSS was unsuccessful at the time of this report.
