Barrister Chijioke Woke, Port Harcourt-based legal practitioner has welcomed the decision of a Federal High Court that issued a bench and arrest warrant on Mr Sam J. Bora the Commanding Officer of Navy Pathfinder, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt over flagrant disregard to court orders.
The lawyer who disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday, said the Commanding Officer of Navy Pathfinder was in flagrant disobedience to court orders and that despite repeated order for him to appear before the court, he placed himself above the Law and refused to appear.
Barrister Woke disclosed that the order made by Justice Oshomah of Federal high court 4 in suit no FHC/PH/MISC/191/2020 on Monday directing the Inspector General of Police and any of his officers to arrest the Navy Commanding Officer and bring him before the court on December 3 2020 is a welcome development and will serve as deterrent to other persons who disregard the court.
He noted that his client Precious Ledumubari Nafiri was arrested on 21st August 2020 by the Navy Pathfinder in Rumulomeni reportedly by the orders of the Navy Commanding officer.
Barrister Woke revealed that his client’s property was carted away without court order.He said his client was denied access to his family and disconnected from his medication and it only took court order for the Navy to allow his lawyers to have access to Precious Nafiri after protracted detention.
Barrister Woke disclosed that despite the court order for Precious Nafiri to be released from custody of the Navy, the Navy pathfinder flagrantly disobeyed the order which prompted the issuing of the bench warrant and arrest warrant to the commanding officer.
Barrister Woke said it will serve as deterrent to other persons who do not regard the court.
